Barcelona

This was one of the most special events I have done sofar this year. To begin with it was in Barcelona, one of my favorite cities in Europe. Next was a superb location on top of the mountan of Barcelona ; the Montjuic. And together with 5 "Perfect Sky" www.perfectsky.nl umbrellas of 22 mtrs, for me the perfect projection, it was a breathtaking open air event. There were 3 stages and 4 dinner areas. My client Gebert Janssen of the eventburo The Eventarchitect asked me to make this perfect and so I did. I used 130 Vari*Lites to paint with light and to make some stunning athmosferes. The set I used was with 20 VL 3000 Wash, 22 VL3000 Spot, 16 VL2500 Spot, 16 VL6c, 28 VL5, 20 VL5a, 8 VL 2416 and some conventional channels for basic dinnerlight and surrounding lights. This was a dinner for 800 people from the Netherlands and Belgium with a big Cirque show with more than 40 artists, lead by Constant Geerling. After the dinner there was a complete concert of Belle Perez on another stage and right after that on yet another stage a complete concert of Marco Borsato and his band. This all in a setting overlooking the city of Barcelona at night was sooooo beautiful. I want to thank all involved, like Constant Geerling, Gebert Janssen, Noël Bos, Jeroen van Oirschot of EML ( Vari*Lite NL ), my friend Frederic Boul, technical producer Piet Winten and Jeroen Veenman of EML who supervised the fantastic lightcrew. A big thank you from me to you all !

Here all the guests will enter the area for the party. Under the big balloon will be a tissue act playing. From here the people had an beautiful overview of the city. They could not see the eventarea yet...

Over the stairs to the area where it all was going to happen. This is the area in front of the Olypic stadium next to the olympic swimming pool. No, we did NOT swim...no time...

It almost looked like this area was there all the time but we know better. A large crew of 150 people have worked for more than a week to realise this all. And the preproduction took 3 months !

Dinner is ready, please take your seats. I think if we would have opened a theatre restaurant here than it would be sold out all summer. A very good creative idea of Gebert and his team.

Setting up the light system. Some 130 Vari*Lites from witch only 3 of them needed some help of a tech. Its well serviced equipment by EML from there store in Utrecht. In total 5 trailers of equipment travelled from The Netherlands to Barcelona

Working with the best technicians a designer can dream of. Goosebumps everywere... The set was always on time ready to programm for me.

Its so wonderful, ashame it was only for one night. Here a complete overview of the area.

It looks like equipment and stages all over the place, but it will become thé event site for a perfect party. And during daytime a temprature of 25c degrees and some wind it was very nice. I had a hard time not to confuse it with a holliday...

A relaxed atmosfere to work in. Sunshine and a lot of toys for me to play with...Here looking from the Belle Perez stage to the cirque stage in the middle and the Borsato stage at the end.

Does it show that I LOVE the VL5 ? Its still the best washlight in the world. On every pole of the groundsupport were 5 mounted. In total more than 40 were used.

The controls : HOG 3 system with wingboard and 2 touchscreens. those guys at EML know how to build the perfect control setup. This was my playground...

Starry strarry night....Congo blue and 2 other shades of blue, starry night gobo`s with a veeeeerry slow smooth random intensity fade in the VL3000 and all the Lee 088 colored treelights on....did I say goosebumps alraidy ?

This was the last night of programming...next day : SHOWTIME !
